The 3 Team Parlay

Monday’s are generally light on the NBA schedule.

Monday’s are generally light on the NBA schedule. Last night in fact, there were only 3 games. They all seemed pretty easy to pick so I decided to do a 3-team parlay for $50. My picks were:

Pistons -8 vs. Clippers
Nuggets, -5 vs. Warriors
Jazz – 9 vs. the Hawks

I liked all 3 home teams in these contests as they were all playing against lesser teams. So how did I do? Let’s see.

First up was the Pistons/Clippers game. The Clippers have not at all resembled the team that made it into the 2nd round of the playoffs last year while the Pistons once again are one of the elite teams in the NBA. The Clippers were also playing in the last game of a 7-game road trip. They had to be tired by now. Plus as an added bonus for me, they were missing Elton Brand who was a late scratch with back spasms. Not to mention the Pistons are 11-2 since they acquired Chris Webber.

Richard Hamilton scored 15 points and Prince added 14 for Detroit, which had all of its starters score in double figures. Meanwhile, Cuttino Mobley led Los Angeles with 17 points, and Corey Maggette added 15. Chris Kaman had 13 points and nine rebounds before fouling out midway through the fourth. The Pistons led 45-38 at the half, holding the Clippers to 34.2 percent shooting, and took over in the third quarter.

Webber had eight points and Hamilton scored five as Detroit opened the second half with a 13-3 run. The Pistons led 71-56 after three. Sam Cassell started the fourth with a three-point play for the Clippers but Webber scored the next four points to put the game away.

Next up was the Nuggets/Warriors game. We all know how I feel about the Nuggets and quite frankly, the Warriors stink. Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith scored 28 points apiece and the Nuggets beat the Golden State Warriors 123-111 Monday night in the duo's best combined performance since their suspensions for fighting back in December.

The Warriors were without their leading scorer, guard Baron Davis, who is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday. And guard Stephen Jackson didn't arrive until halftime after testifying in a trial in Indianapolis of a man who hit him with a car during a fight outside a strip club last fall. ”I’m just glad that a part of it is out of the way. I’m ready to move on”, Jackson said of his testimony. “It went well. It’s something I couldn’t get around “.The Nuggets tightened their defense enough to surge to a big lead early in the fourth quarter, and that's when things got out of hand.
Nene had 24 points for Denver and Marcus Camby tied a career high with seven assists to go with eight points and seven rebounds in his return from a four-game absence with a pulled groin and the flu. He looked like he hadn't missed a minute, playing loose and free and several times dishing the ball behind his back for big baskets before taking a seat when the game got out of hand.

Al Harrington led the Warriors with 24 points, and Kelenna Azubuike added 23.

Two down, one to go and I get paid. My fate rested in the hands of the outcome of the Jazz/Hawks game. The Hawks have been flying high on the road winning 5 straight, but they are still a terrible team. This one was over early as the Jazz outscored the Hawks by at least 9 in each of the first 3 quarters. It was a blowout, that’s all you need to know. Did I mention how much I love Mondays?

Till next time, may all your bets be winners.
